The first semester output of this project was an informational video on the Boston Big Dig construction project. The second semester produced a Flash-based interactive website on the details of the Big Dig.
Trace is a time-based interactive narrative that takes place in the very near future, in the city of Falls Point. The city has been "wired" for surveillance, and its citizens' financial transactions and personal records are all tied to a database managed by a private surveillance company, SafetyNet.
SafetyNet has earned favor with the federal government because of its assurances that all information fed into the system is confidential. The user, taking the role of a Falls Point citizen, soon learns that this is not entirely the case.
Trace explores the line between the concrete
and the abstract, between story and game, and between entertainment and political statement.
2002-2003: Welcome to College!
The Welcome to College! CD-ROM was created by the Northeastern University Multimedia Studies Capstone Class of 2003 as an official guide to Boston life and college survival.
2002 Freshmen were surveyed to find out what questions they still had when they arrived at college. The capstone class then set out to find the answers based on their personal experience ad research.
Everything in this project is student created, including all of the facts and advice that the hosts Tony, Frank, and Prescott will share from their virtual college environment.
Interactive demos were created to translate the learning experience in the Art 1 and Music 1 ELMO classrooms to an online platform.
These demos will set the stage for the development of web-based multimedia presentations. These online modules will serve both as in-class presentation tools and as text and visual aids which students can refer to at a later date.
