Designed as a 16-player game, the issue of revealing where the other players species are on a map was a constant discussion. Either revealing that information or limiting it can determine the excitement and interest in the game as well as its level of difficulty. We developed a system to identify other players by the type of species their creature was, ie. herbivore, omnivore or carnivore.
Our original concept listed each players name, type of creature and gave them a unique color to identify themself on the map.
For the final map we consolidated a lot of information by grouping the species types. We also minimized the color coding to apply only to the species type and the individual player.
