Ralf
Yusuf Gawlick
Born
in Pfaffenhofen, Germany, Ralf Yusuf Gawlick received his bachelor's
degree cum laude in composition from the University of California
at Santa Barbara and his master's degree from the University of
Texas at Austin. He also studied at the Music Academy in Lodz, Poland,
and the Hochschule fur Musik und darstellende Kunst in Vienna, Austria.
He received his doctorate in composition from the New England Conservatory
and is currently on the faculty at Northeastern University and Boston
College where his activities include teachingcourses in music theory,
history, and composition.Previous teachers include Malcolm Peyton,
Dan Welcher, Elliot Antokoletz, Jerzy Bauer, Carolyn Bremer, and
Kurt Schwertsik.
In
recent years, Mr. GawlickÕs chamber symphony, Sinfonietta, has been
performed to critical acclaim by such distinguished orchestras as
the Boston Modern Orchestra Project (BMOP) under the internationally
active conductor Gil Rose and the New England Conservatory Classical
Orchestra under Richard Hoenich. His solo and chamber works have
been championed by members of the Boston Philharmonic Orchestra,
the Boston Modern Orchestra Project, the Metamorphosen Chamber Orchestra,
the Huntington Trio, and numerous new music ensembles. His work
has received both national and international recognition, including
awards from ASCAP and the Britten-on-the Bay International Piano
Composition Competition.
Mr.
Gawlick, whose music is available through the American Music Center
and Brazinmusikanta Publications, lives in Brookline, Ma. with his
wife Basia and their two children.
